These are so steep, I always feel a little vertigo when I'm standing at the top. I love them!

I have heard that these escalators were originally installed at Milsons Point after the station was built, but before the bridge was finished. They took people from the station down the steep hill to the ferry on Lavender. I believe they are the first public escalators in Sydney.

Interesting and strange contraption. You had to climb the ladder and hold onto the railing to change the plates that hang on hooks for platforms and train names, or to rotate the "Direction" by the knobs at the left, and to move the clock hands. Presumably the cupboards are to store number and name plates. It can only display trains for a two-hour period which would mean alot of climbing. No wonder they replaced it fairly quickly.

"Procurable at counter". Half the people these days wouldn't know what the word "procurable" means.

I am curious what "entree" meant then. Maybe the Americans are right.

Hopefully the food was not as grim as the surroundings!
