Original BART system used a General Electric VHF Railroad Radio Service system R160.410 110.9 T161.505 110.9. Slotted Heliax coaxial cable "Radiax" was strung along all underground sections. It leaked signal that allowed communication with trains underground. You can see the Radiax and hangers as a line along the track and above the riders' heads.

It is interesting to see that Newtown had more platforms than it does today.

The northern/far platform was removed to make way for the 2 x fast intercity tracks in 1927 in conjunction with electrification. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newtown_railway_station,_Sydney

Wonderful! - it is/was such a pretty railway station. In my Glenbrook days it used to win the "Best railway garden" awards regularly... from times when people cared about such things. What's also interesting is that for a photo that is 110 years old, this view hasn't changed too much!
