Chullora Railway Canteen - dining room

Not a lot of room when everybody comes. I'd hate to be the cleaner too! none of the chairs stack on top of each other. It's so funny that the staff were brought in as photo props.

Highranger Have you noticed the sign hanging from the ceiling, top right. "No. 1 Group" so I assume there is a No 2 and maybe No 3 ?.
  • Highranger said:
dunedoo Maybe the group allocation allowed the staff to clear the tables? I did notice that...reminds me of boarding school ;-(

"No dogs will dine here by God!" Or, do you mean, no dogs on the menu, here? Or, were you referring to English?

Large British flag with a crest in the middle of it, other one looks like a variation on the Red Ensign along the left wall. Flag from a unit at Waterloo? See on the left of these flags www.warflag.com/napflags/flaghtml/britKGL.htm

CASSIDY PHOTOGRAPHY - I think Morning Mary was referring to the likelihood that the usual morning past-time (the dog hunt) would be fruitless today. (At least, as you say, if we didn't include any mystery meat from the menu...) Niall McAuley - Thanks for the "today" shot. I wonder where all the weapons went.... oaktree_brian_1976 - Any flags that you can see that might help refine the date range a little? Though maybe beachcomber australia is onto something with the lighting...

Chullora Railway Canteen - meal time in the dining room

Interesting shot, by today's standard hardly anyone would notice the photographer.

Most of the men seem to be too old for military service, though there's a few youngsters possibly awaiting their turn to be sent off to the war.
