He was the founder of the "Church Army," the Anglican church's mission to working-class Englishmen (who felt excluded from organized religion because of British society's rigid class structure). (The CA was the official Church of England's answer to the Salvation Army, which had been founded four years earlier, and was regarded by the church as a renegade outfit.) I love how, even though this was taken over 60 years ago, those buildings look almost identical today.

There's such a European look to the architecture and landscaping, I had to do a double-take to be sure it said this was D.C. The people in it are intriguing, too; I wonder whether they were models or actual servicemen and their dates? I like how the polka-dotted woman's right arm is motion-blurred, and how neatly the stripe-skirted lady's feet are pressed together.
