However, in recent decades Queensland historians have uncovered a much more significant reading history than what traditionally was presumed. Gordon and Gotch opened its Brisbane branch in 1875. The Company had begun in a partnership of Alexander Gordon and John Gotch and was incorporated in 1895 and listed in 1897. Its standing as a credible publisher was aided by having a branch in London. The 1940s was the era when the midriff was born, and it was shown in swimsuits as well as playsuits. 1940s swimsuits were tight, unlike the suits of previous era. One-piece swimsuits were still popular, but the new two-piece suit had plenty of fans too. The materials used to make swimsuits our of rayon jersey and rayon jersey blends with knit cotton linings. Many suits had accent panels of a velvet like rayon velour. Some also featured ruching on the front or side panels that were both pretty and figure flattering. The one-piece swimsuit looked like a very tight, short dress. The bra top resembled a full-coverage bra. The suit then extended down into a tight ‘skirt’ that would cover the backside completely. Castlemaine Perkins is a brewery at 185 Milton Road, Milton, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is a wholly-owned entity of the Japanese-controlled Lion company. Operations began in 1878 and continue today. Castlemaine Perkins is the home of the XXXX beer brand. In 1877, brothers Nicholas Fitzgerald and Edward Fitzgerald partnered with a Brisbane commercial firm to buy the site of a failing distillery and establish a brewery, named for the Fitzgeralds' existing Castlemaine Brewery.[1] They began to brew beer there in the following year and the brewery continues production to this day. The first beverage was called XXX Sparkling Ale.[2] In 1866, Patrick Perkins started the Perkins Brewery in Toowoomba. In 1872, he later extended his operations to Brisbane with the purchase of the City Brewery in 1872.[3] The company restricted its operations entirely to brewing by 1916.[4] XXXX was introduced with a new advertising campaign in 1924 after the brewery employed German brewer, Alois William Leitner.[2] The advertising included a depiction of a little man wearing a suit with a smile, a wink, and a boater hat. The so-called 'Forex Man' soon became one of the most recognized symbols in Queensland.[2] In 1928 (long after the death of Patrick Perkins in 1901), the Perkins brewing company was bought by the Castlemaine Brewery with the new company being known as Castlemaine Perkins Limited.[3] In March 1980, Castlemaine Perkins merged with Tooheys to form Castlemaine Tooheys.[5] Bond Corporation purchased Castlemaine Tooheys in 1985.[6] Castlemaine Tooheys was acquired in 1992 by Lion Nathan.
