Congrats on the milestone! The exhibition sounds great - will fill-in the survey shortly. Not sure when the clock was first installed, but this image must surely be mid-1920s based on fashion alone (and certainly after 1922 as that's when the Clery's building was built/rebuilt) . Also fascinating to me (and may or may not be relevant to date) is that it looks like the Japanese "rising sun" flag is flying above Clery's. Which seems very unusual. As I always thought that was a military/naval ensign....

From our old favourite, Archiseek (archiseek.com/forum/topic/dublin-street-lighting/): 1920-23 During this period, new rather bizarre looking electric lamps were attached to the swan-neck posts, replacing the earlier globes. Some of these can be seen swinging loosely in the wind in some footage. They survived right up till the end of these grand post's lives.

We are glad to announce that our New Building on the old site in Lower O'Connell Street is sufficiently far advanced [rebuilding after 1916 Rising bombardment] for us to open it to our customers and the public on Wednesday August 9th ... NEW CLERY'S is the last word in shopping comfort. We mean to make it - The Shopping Centre of Ireland.
And the beautiful illustration (not photo) in the ad has no clock!

Well this isn't much help, but was of interest to me. If you look at the background, you'll see that the statue to William Smith O'Brian isn't there; the statue in the background is Sir John Gray. The Smith O'Brian memorial was erected in 1870, but at the apex of D'Olier St and the quay. It wasn't moved to O'Connell St till 1929. The Gray memorial went up in 1879. On the 25" OSI Map the lower reservoir is already there, but the upper is "in construction. (You have to zoom right in to see them, though.)

Wikipedia article on the Vartry reservoirs. The lower one was completed between 1863-68, the upper in 1923. The engineer was Parke Neville, the Dublin City and Waterworks Engineer. Plus a 1906 Postcard of the Vartry Reservoir in Stillorgan that this fed into.

derangedlemur I tried wandering around the reservoir on streetview, but eventually gave up. That said, this doesn't look too far off. The Sugarloaf is off to the ~~right~~ left.
