OS 1893 indicates that there is a Smithy behind the chimney sweeps. The top right edge of the photograph shows Richmond Lane continuing away from the camera. At the point where the women can be seen is the junction with West Richmond Street.

This tenement may have long gone however the Buccleuch and Greyfriars Free Church of Scotland is still standing today - it is visible on the left edge of the photograph.
