In which case this may be at the Sept. 30, 1916 Astor Cup. See www.champcarstats.com/races/191610.htm But if it's an 18, this is likely at the Harkness Trophy Race, run on Oct 28, 1916. Unfortunately, this site ( www.driverdb.com/drivers/jack-lecain/) does not seem to have gotten the word that except for 1905 & 1916, there were no AAA national championships prior to 1920.

I imagine the car is a Mercer. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_%28automobile%29

Quicksell [sic] was his mechanic. According to oregonnews.uoregon.edu/lccn/sn83045782/1916-10-01/ed-1/se... the incident happened at the Sheepshead Bay Speedway on Sept 30, 1916 Ruckstall appears to be Guy E. But then I find a Glover Edwin Ruckstell, who could possibly be the same guy!!
