Interestingly, Cantor is standing on the top hatch and turret of an M1917 Light Tank, the American license-built version of the French Renault FT-17 Tank (the M1917 is distinguished from the FT-17 by the lifting hook on the hull, noted on the photo above). Presumably the tank was in Columbus Circle for a postwar display. I can read "Friday, September" and see a single digit for the date. The headline reads: "Senate Will Ratify Treaty, Says Wilson, And Our Men In Khaki Will Never Have To Cross The Seas Again. Senators Adopt Four Drastic Treaty Reservations." The day on the paper is Friday and the year must be 1919 during the Actor's strike. The treaty was not signed until 1921. I thought we were in a 1923 tranche of images based on the people arriving by boat, but we must be back in 1919 for this image. The exact date is Friday, September 5, 1919. I found the Thursday evening edition with the same headline.
