The photo is taken in New York's Columbus Circle. That's the monumental statue of Columbus in its center in the background. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Circle

Interestingly, Cantor is standing on the top hatch and turret of an M1917 Light Tank, the American license-built version of the French Renault FT-17 Tank (the M1917 is distinguished from the FT-17 by the lifting hook on the hull, noted on the photo above). Presumably the tank was in Columbus Circle for a postwar display. This maybe a M1917, which is a copy of the French Renault FT made under licence from Renault in the USA. This is the pattern from which nearly all modern tanks are based on (eg. swivel turret on tracks)
