Lobert and Schultz were the 1915 third basemen for the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers (officially, the Robins), respectively. This was probably taken on opening day at the Polo Grounds, which in 1915 was April 15th. www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/schedule.php?y=1915&am...

A bit of trivia based on this picture: Joe Schultz's son, Joe Schultz Jr., grew up also to be a major league ballplayer, and went on to immortality as the Seattle Pilots' manager in Jim Bouton's Ball Four.

American Red Cross Building – Then and Now (90+ years)

Several architectural and landscaping details were completed since the original photograph was taken. Red crosses were placed on the portico peak and above the main door, and granite baluster railings were added to the grounds. It's evident that trees do grow! ;-)   and the grounds now include numerous Cherry trees – that are gorgeous when blooming...   An interior view of the Assembly Room may be seen here.

Established in 1881 by Clara Barton, this 18¢ American Red Cross commemorative Social Awareness stamp was issued to mark the centennial of the American Red Cross and to recognize the services of volunteer workers. Thousands of selfless volunteers donate their time in six areas including domestic disaster relief, the collection of blood products, and educational programs.

First Day of Issue ceremonies were held at the American Red Cross Centennial Convention in Washington, DC, on May 1, 1981. (Scott 1910).
