Perhaps the American diplomat mentioned in NYT article on October 29, 1911. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B03E6DF1E31E233A... He was mentioned as former Second Secretary at the American Embassy in London, who had just spent two years on a "tour of the world."

Continuing ... He was in the news so often, it's impossible to suggest when the photo was taken. He had been a member of the First Regiment of Volunteer Cavalry (aka Roosevelt's Rough Riders) and figures frequently in the NYT society columns, including those from London. On May 17, 1912 the NYT published an article about a letter apparently written by Harry K. Thaw to a private detective in 1903. The version of the letter published in the New York Herald had a postscript included a list of names (including Craig Wadsworth) with some of them (not Wadsworth, but including Stanford White whom Thaw killed in 1906) annotated with the word "kill." He attended US Ambassador Whitelaw Reid's memorial service in London on Dec 20, 1912 and by that time had been appointed to the Bucharest Legation.
