Former President Theodore Roosevelt stands on the deck of the steamship Aidan, in New York harbor, on May 19, 1914. The ship had docked minutes earlier, after returning Roosevelt from an eight-month ordeal in South America where, with his son Kermit and others, he had explored a hitherto unknown river through the Amazon jungle -- called "The River of Doubt," but afterwards named "Rio Roosevelt." The harrowing adventure was told recently in the bestselling book "The River of Doubt," (2006) by Candice Millard. The caption on this one reads "ca. 1898" but the date taken metadata says 28 October 1898. Is that just a mistake, or is the exact date now known?

It will make your blood absolutely BOIL to learn about how this single jerk set the curve for the Second World War in the Pacific, the Communist Revolution in China and the wars in Korea and Vietnam. Not to mention how we slaughtered Filipinos and others under his presidencies. A must read for all Americans. After reading this amazing book, I think that his image should be blasted off of Mount Rushmore.
