Portrait of Judge John Hubert Plunkett in robes and wig

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/51979177@N02] That has to be him! The likeness is so close. The only problem is that this image is attributed to Hall Photographic co, and Hall senior did not arrive in Australia until around 1874, several years after Plunkett's death. We may have to review the provenance of this one, it looks as though it is a photo of a photo. Thanks Quasymody, great find!

When I first saw the picture, I thought it was San Francisco's Emperor Norton!

Parkhurst, pastor of Madison Square Presbyterian Church in New York City, was quite often in the news. NYT of Jan 8, 1916 select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F70811FC39591A7A... reported an accusation by stockholders of the Franklin Company that he had written letters to Franklin stockholders encouraging them to agree to a sale of Franklin to the American Candy Manufacturing Company, of which Parkhurst was a stockholder and Vice-president. Litigation over the sale had driven American Candy into bankruptcy. NYT of Jan 26, 1916 had more on the story select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F30B1EF8355C1373... NYT of Dec 22, 1916 select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F70811FC39591A7A... reports that Dr. Parkhurst was honored on 12/21/1916 for 36 year of service by the New York Federation of Churches and mentions that he believed churches had not taken enough action to prevent the "European War."
