This is a man that all Hoosiers know.

The Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916), -- wealthy, wildly popular, alcoholic -- had suffered a stroke in 1910, and in 1913 began using a cane as he learned to walk again. According to a caption in Riley's Wikipedia biography, this photograph was taken at a "Riley Day" celebration in Cincinnati, in November, 1913. Riley's train passed through Cincinnati every year, on the way from his summer home in Greenfield, Indiana, to winter quarters in Florida.
