William Wallace Atterbury (January 31, 1866 – September 20, 1935) was a Brigadier General during World War I. He was instrumental in reorganizing railroad traffic during the war for more efficient transportation of troops and supplies for the Allied forces. Comment from reader T. Edmonds: School boys volunteered to work for the railways during the strike and were used in low skilled jobs. Many of those in the photo appear to be of school age and the chalk on the TAM sleeping car includes references to Sydney Grammar and Shore. Sleeping cars possibly being used for accommodation.
