Was this for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887 (20th June), or the Diamond Jubilee 1897?
-
beachcomber australia said:
It must have been for the Diamond Jubilee in 1897, because the statue was not unveiled until 1888.

How can that be looking East? Where's Hyde Park?

The building on the right still stands on the corner of King Street and the Pitt Street Mall. Looking up the hill to the east is the spire of St James Church. The steam tram was heading up the hill to turn right into Queens Square on its way to Rose Bay. "The fatal card" is on the marquee of the Theatre Royal left.

Cate Cahill The northern end of Hyde park is at Queens Square, which is at the east end of King St. You would not see the park from King St.

Curious Haircut said:
Yeah, you can see St James and then, beyond that, the Hyde Park Barracks

that photo isnt from 1892. St james spire had a broach added in 1894-95, which is evident in that photo. maybe late 1890s?
