The same day, the NYT query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B00E7D8143FE633A... indicated that a big party of mothers, babies, and toddlers would be taken from East 23rd Street to Sea Breeze, Coney Island for 2 weeks. 300-500 would leave every Monday morning until October.

    Same problem that Britain had in the First World War. With so many men in the armed services women had to be recruited to do jobs that were normally reserved for men.
