I like railways, but as a composition, this is shockingly bad. The eye isn't drawn to any point of interest, the train (if that's meant to be the focus) is too small, the centre is a telegraph pole and the whole thing is basically a big triangle in the lower half a horizontally split field.

The Ballaghadereen branch is gone, but the Sligo line is still there in Streetview. I think O'Dea may have climbed one of the signal posts to get this angle.

Niall McAuley Looking at your map link, he seems to be where the .400 field meets the .831 field.

I was thinking Memorial Bridge (?) in Dublin City Centre but it looks too short for that?

It looks as if there are points near the camera, suggesting that this is the whole bridge - quite short all right.

Looks a bit forrin to me.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the distant signal with a swallow-tail and a bobble and spike on top is a GWR feature and we should maybe be looking in the UK.

Might be some bit of marshalling kit, what with the looped chain in the middle and the row of wheel ratchets on the rail.

It doesn't line up with the map very well. Maybe if it was flipped, though it's still not great even then. There may be some map between the Cassini and the modern that we need.
