An interesting note on the cavas banners in those days.A very few survive from the 30's thru the end of the 40's.All were hand painted in those days and some have sold in fair condition for 6000.00$.Some painted by very well known artists of the era. Some are absolutely truly a master work.An old one in good condition from a major circus or well known Carni could fetch 10K.....................so if you are lucky enough to have one don't leave it in the barn.
The yardmaster's office at the receiving yard, North Proviso(?), C & NW RR, Chicago, Ill. (LOC)

After downloading the high resolution TIFF image from the Library of Congress I was able to zoom in on all the interesting things hanging on the wall. One poster shows Captain Arthur W. Wermuth the "One Man Army" in the Philippines. This web site has a good account of his actions. www.homeofheroes.com/footnotes/2007/01January2-wermuth.html
