Situated in one of the most delightful portions of Bundaberg, in close proximity to Alexandra Park and the Burnett River, the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy occupies an envious position. The building, specially constructed for collegiate purposes, is in the center of a large area of ground, picturesquely laid out and sheltered with trees and foliage. THE SISTERS OF MERCY CONVENT ON BOURBONG STREET On July 10, 1897, five Sisters of Mercy came to take up teaching duties. They were to remain until lack of numbers forced their withdrawal from schools in the 1980s. The Presentation Sisters also operated a school for a few years in Bundaberg in the 1960s. OS 1893 indicates that there is a Smithy behind the chimney sweeps. The top right edge of the photograph shows Richmond Lane continuing away from the camera. At the point where the women can be seen is the junction with West Richmond Street.

Crows Nest, established on Dalla tribal lands, was declared a town in 1876.[5] Crows Nest Post Office opened on 1 July 1878.[6] A branch railway line from Toowoomba, which serviced a number of sawmills and a dairying district, was finished in 1886.[5] In December 1880 the Primitive Methodist Church purchased 1.5 acres (0.61 ha) of land for a church.[7] The church opened on Good Friday on 15 April 1881.[8][9] On 31 December 1905, a new Crows Nest Methodist Church was opened; it replaced the old church.[10] In 1956 the church was remodeled.
