    beachcomber australia Hang on a second, just did some research thanks to FredV45's tag. This might be KITANO MARU at the bridge opening event! That would explain why there are huge crowds and other steamers in the harbour.
    The MALOJA was the lead ship, which might explain these photos:

So Saturday 19 March 1932. I don't think the two MALOJA photos are from this particular occasion because there are no huge crowds and/or boats in the background. And no bunting etc. Here is a wonderful detailed account of the event including all the involved ships' names (which may help with other Hall photos in the series) - SMH 21/3/1932 p.12 col 6 "Ships' Procession" - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/page/1157173 At the bottom right of the page is also this -
    " GRACEFULTRIBUTE. A graceful compliment to New South Wales and the bridge was paid by the commander of the Kitano Maru, who made the sacred tree of Japan, the flowering cherry, prominent on the green covering of one of the hatchways of the vessel on the occasion of Saturday's celebrations. "

    The 'Hunter' (2), a 240 passenger vessel of 1840 tons, built in Leith, Scotland 1907, served as a cruise vessel in Australian waters up to the 1930s. Scuttled in Hong Kong in 1941, raised by the Japanese military invaders, and finally sunk by US bombers in 1945. See: www.flotilla-australia.com/nhrsn.htm#hunter2-nhrsn

    Andy, not so much a cruise ship as a coastal passenger and cargo ship that served ports on the NSW North Coast from Sydney. At least some of its passengers would have used this service for an elementary form of what we now call "a cruise".

    The ship was owned by Lundegaard & Sonner, Fatsund and was probably under charter to UK operators. Built 1929, 4251 grt. Sold 1932 to B J Sutherland and renamed Fife. In 1936 sold became Leith Hill, then to Kulukundis (London Greeks) as Mount Aetna and served through WW II under this name. Scrapped Osaka 1959 as John Livanos' Nevada.
