We had a lot of interest from our Archives Outside friends and have established a c.1900 date for this photo.
It is a wonderful image of the hustle and bustle of early Sydney - with trams and pre-traffic snarls. -

Brian Yap The tram standing in Spit Road (middle background) is a C-class tramcar as is the car just passing out of the frame on the right towards Mosman - both power cars. The tram standing right in the junction would appear to be a non-powered trailer car. In the distance, heading towards the Spit, beyond the points,can be seen a C-class and trailer set.

Something way wrong with the date of this "earlier than 1958", when the current bridge was completed. There was a previous 1924 bridge, not in evidence here. So before 1924??

beachcomber australia The balloon loop ceased to be used on 11 June 1923 as it stood in the way of the southern approaches to the 'new' bridge. The water tank, which was also in the way of the approach was relocated on 17 July 1923.

I can't see Grotto Point Light (see note), which should show as a white blob, as it does on streetview. Built in 1910-11, the lack of it might drag the photo date even earlier to before 1910. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grotto_Point_Light (one of my favourite places in all of Sydney, but sshh, don't tell anyone!).
