The Bass-Curtiss Airboat was a Curtiss Model F Flying Boat that was modified at Ernest C. Bass's request in 1914 to use a 125 horsepower Anzani 10 radial engine (mistakenly described as a "Lingazani" engine in the New York Times story cited below), instead of the standard Curtiss OX-5 engine. New York Times January 4, 1914 "The New York Times correspondent in Paris reports that Ernest Bass, a cousin of Lord Burton, who recently inherited $500,000 from his father's estate, lately ordered a Curtiss boat, but will have the Curtiss engine taken out and install a ten-cylinder Lingazani [sic] of 120 horse power. Mr. Bass declined to say whether he intended to compete for the Daily Mail prize."
