Last single deck trains retired in about 1993. But the last ones in use were the last batch made, made around 1958 with the automatic doors.

Presumably "later than 1886" is due to the cable tram being there. it looks to me as if the railway station on the right (old Milsons Point station opened 1893) is not there - otherwise the photographer would have proudly included it in the picture. So perhaps before 1893? Certainly before 1895 as the Colonial Secretary's Office has no dome. I feel sorry for that tree - it needed re-potting!
