This appears to have been taken from the corner of Blue St and Miller St in North Sydney, overlooking Lavender Bay. The church on the right is St Francis Xavier, and is still there. Approximate shooting location: maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=...

Ha - the plot thickens - I think this is slightly earlier than the other, c.1890, due to the state of the Australia Hotel. Hall seems to have used a different, less fish-eye lens. Fascinating to compare them -
