beachcomber australia Hi Beachcomber, not sure what vessel is being launched in this image - but quite possibly SYDNEY as most of the spectators seem to be standing here. There are quite a few articles in Trove re the launching of ships from this yard...

donnnnnny Hi Donny, Lavender Bay is one bay over - to the east. In fact both bays just make it into this map that Beachcomber drew to our attention yesterday!

Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons Yes the name 'Sydney' is not narrow enough for searches - naturally! The Graeme Andrews 'Ferries of Sydney' book makes no mention of one actually called "Sydney". I am presuming she was a ferry - double ended, bench seats upstairs, etc, like the inner harbour ferries 'Lady' class (p.92 of the book). There are two (Sydney I and II) listed on the FerriesOfSydney website but no details - ferriesofsydney.com/ferries.html (glad to see this excellent site back online again - it was MIA for couple of years)

beachcomber australia Fancy seeing you here Beachie. You can blame my father's cousin for the demolition of the cinema. He was a Landscape Architect and was involved in the construction of the Warringah Expressway. www.smh.com.au/national/peter-spooner-architect-shaped-at...
