Orient liner RMS ORMONDE at anchor in Sydney Harbour

  • FredV45 said:
The ship is the Orient S N Co liner Ormonde, built in 1917 and in service on the Company's England-Australia run until scrapped in 1952. The photo can be approximately dated as late 1931 by the fact that it shows the Sydney Harbour Bridge pylons as incomplete: they reached full height in January 1932.

I think it might be 26 January 1931, Anniversary Day (now known as Australia Day). R.M.S. 'Ormonde' was the Flagship. Read all about it - SMH 27/01/1931 p.9 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16749101 Illustration - (p.12) - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16748970

My grandad took the trip from Liverpool to Algiers on this ship in May 1943 as part of draft reinforcements for the 1st Army in Tunisia during World War II.
