puzzlemaster: thanks for the information which will be useful to update our records. However, there seems to be a discrepancy in the year he was born. You have January 9, 1885 while in the same link that you provided it has his birth date as being 1887, www.earlyaviators.com/ewood.htm. Where did you find the date of his birth? Thanks.
  • Dave Miller said:
I got his birth date from his passport application of 1913 which I found in US Passport Applications 1789-1925 at ancestry.com The application, which is signed by Mr Wood, gives his birth date as January 9, 1885. The application appears to have been filled out by someone other than the signatory, however, so perhaps it is not as reliable as it first appears. So I went back and searched for more evidence. The 1900 US Census of Bible Grove IL includes a Clyde M Wood, son of Leander Wood, who was born in January 1885. The 1910 Census of the same place also has " C M Wood, aged 25, teacher" who appears to be the same individual. Keep the pictures coming Pete. They're much appreciated.

The former Nina Floyd Crosby, daughter of Walter Floyd Crosby (d. 1915, age 59). She was the wife of a Louisiana senator, James Biddle Eustis (one S), from 1903 until he also died in 1915, age 44. Then in 1917 she married a Frenchman, Marie Charles Jean Melchior (1880-1950), the Marquis de Polignac: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Charles_Jean_Melchior_de_Poli...

Thanks for the information. We'll add it to the source data and reload the description.

Hmm, looking closer: she seems to have been married in 1903 to a younger James Biddle Eustis (1870-1915, Harvard class of 1894), son of James Biddle Eustis the senator; this woman's husband was apparently not the senator. Just to make it more interesting, Nina Crosby and JBE had a son who was also called James Biddle Eustis.
