The negative of this underexposed copy photograph is inscribed with Bain's date of November 18, 1913. The original photograph was signed by a New York photographer named Mishkin. In the autumn of 1913, Margaret Wycherly appeared in 80 performances of a drama called "The Fight," at the Hudson Theatre in New York. (The play was written by her husband, Bayard Veiller.) "The Fight (1913). Drama. Written by Bayard Veiller. Hudson Theatre: 2 Sep 1913- Nov 1913 (closing date unknown/80 performances). Cast: Margaret Wycherly (as "Jane Thomas"), Ada Boshell, John Dugan, Malcolm Duncan, Margaret Gordon, William Holden, Robert Kegereis, Felix Krembs, Del Le Bar, Edward R. Mawson, William McVay, Clara Mersereau, Frances Stanford, Charles Sturgis, Raymond Van Sickle, Marjorie Wood. Produced by The Estate of Henry B. Harris."

Should be Mrs. N. de R. Whitehouse. She was married to James Norman de Rapelye Whitehouse (1858–1949)

This is during the July 5, 1915 Women's Suffrage activities. Mrs. Norman de R. Whitehouse was chairman of the Empire State Campaign Committee, which arranged the events, and also Grand Marshal of the parade after the activities at Bedloe's (Liberty) Island.


The New York Times account of the day says the group going to Bedloe's (Liberty) Island was taken there aboard the yacht Tourist. I think that is where this photo was taken.

New-York tribune., July 06, 1915, Page 5 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030214/1915-07-06/ed-... has a picture probably taken at the same time. Margaret Wycherly read an "Appeal to Liberty" at the Statue of Liberty as part of a demonstration in favor of women suffrage.
