Fascinating! I thought Menangle, but it is not. Mr Hall must have been on another bridge. Or ship. Hmmm ...

beachcomber australia This one's a challenge. I thought perhaps it was Meadowbank on the Parramatta River, but this bridge isn't long enough. Will tag you again if we crack it!

Wellington railway bridge over the Macquarie River. See Government Printing Office photo: @SLNSW - acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/item/itemDetailPaged.aspx?itemID=201398 (Feb. 1944) @SRNSW - investigator.records.nsw.gov.au/asp/photosearch/photo.asp... (undated) Nice to date a photo in the process of identifying another! I've passed on the date to Museums of History NSW - State Archives Collection The British lattice girder bridge was the standard for major railway bridges in NSW in the Whitton era (until 1890).

pellethepoet BRILLIANT ! btw date of photo? 1890s? Who would have thought Wellington? The railway arrived in 1880. And this bridge is still used - "The town is served by twice a day the daily Countrylink XPT service which runs between Sydney and Dubbo and return. The train stops heading to Dubbo at 12:58pm and heading to Sydney at 2:47pm." [from Wikipedia] GoogleMapsStreetView - looking a bit rusty after 133 years.
