Michele Mario 'Mike' Carlone (May 24, 1923 - May 19, 1944), Killed in Action (KIA) As per the Imperial War Museum's (IWM) American Air Museum website, "Assigned to 328FS, 352FG, 8AF USAAF. Failed to Return (FTR) ramrod to Berlin, after knocking down Me109, spun in and crashed 25 miles SE Wittenburg in P-51 42-106668 Killed in Action (KIA). MACR 4989." Fitzgerald Leo. Volunteer, B Company, 3rd Battalion, Dublin Brigade, Irish Volunteers. He was Killed in Action on the 14th of March 1921 aged 31 during the War of Independence, he was part of an IRA unit keeping guard over a meeting attended by Sean McBride at Saint Andrews Club, 144 Brunswick Street, the meeting was raided by Police and he was killed in the ensuing gun battle. Fought at Boland’s Mills Boland’s Bakery during the Rising. from Irish Medals.
Most of his family were also involved in the War of Independence, according to Irish Medals. He’s here with his family in Great Brunswick St. (now Pearse St.) 1901. By 1911, most of them at Gaelicised their name. -
