    Rory Sherlock Rory's link makes the identification easy as they are all accounted for in the article. O'Maille was involved in a confrontation in April of that year at or near his home in Kilmilkin in Co. Galway where Constable Boylan, a widower with four young children was killed. One of those identified in the photograph is Dr. Michael Brown who was later Bishop of Galway and famous/infamous for the cathedral in Galway city!

    This looks like it was a group shot that was cut down to make a "portrait", that was then later used for a postcard. (Hence the shading out of the guy in front.)

    Here is an archive image of a painted portrait of O'Hanrahan in uniform. I suspect it was painted from this photo. Note on plate reads Miss O'Hanrahan, so it was commissioned by one of his sisters Anna, Mary or Eillen

    Trove has a possible hit: RIOT IN DUBLIN. Police Inspector Killed., LONDON, June 11. A riot occurred, in Dublin on Sunday in connection with a meeting to protest against the treatment of Irish political offenders. Inspector Mills, of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, was killed during the disturbance. Count Plunkett, M.P., and four other persons were arrested.

    It was the evening of Sunday 10 June 1917, according to the Sydney Morning Herald of 12/6/17 p.7 - trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/15714554
    A later message states:- An attempt to hold a prohibited meeting in Dublin on Sunday evening culminated in a riot. When Count Plunkett and a man named Brugha drove up in a motor near Liberty Hall, about 1000 surged round the car. Brugha called out "The British Government will not allow us freedom of speech." A police-man pulled him from the car. Plunkett tried to stop the mob from shouting, he also was arrested. Meanwhile, the police dispersed the greater part of the mob. Inspector Mills was escorting the prisoners when someone felled him with a stick. He died later.
