Perhaps the 1917 Clare bye-election, won by De Valera for Sinn Féin?

De Valera was painted on that wall behind and then erased.

Countess Markiewicz (LOC)

Looks to be en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constance_Markievicz "Constance Georgine Markievicz, known as Countess Markievicz (Polish: Markiewicz; née Gore-Booth; 4 February 1868 – 15 July 1927) was an Irish Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil politician, revolutionary nationalist, suffragette and socialist. In December 1918, she was the first woman elected to the British House of Commons, though she did not take her seat and, along with the other Sinn Féin TDs, formed the first Dáil Éireann. She was also the second woman in the world to hold a cabinet position (Minister for Labour of the Irish Republic, 1919–1922)" See also dh.tcd.ie/pricediary/historical-context/divided-loyalties... for a crop from this portrait used in the Illustrated London News in 1916.

I'm a non-violence hippy type but she does look cool with her extravagant hat and gun. There should be a hollywood action movie about her life. I could just see Angelina Jolie in the lead role. :)

Sheba78 Well, leaving guns out of it for a moment, the Countess was also a Suffragette; an artist; writer; war correspondent; first ever woman elected to the British parliament (1918) although she didn't take her seat...
