I was thrilled to come across this photograph of my great-grandfather. I had never seen it before. He achieved some renown for his skill at balkline billiards, played for and won a number of titles. Harold Hill makes reference to balkline in the show-stopping number "Trouble" from Meredith Willson's Broadway triumph "The Music Man." According to "Professor" Hill, "It takes judgment, brains, and maturity/To score in the balkline game."
