I agree with the statement that it's a 1911 World Series uniform. The original negative dated this as 1912, but our recommendation changed the caption date to 1911. BH (SABR)

Fred Merkle was famous for his "boner." Merkle's Boner was when he neglected to touch second base in the last game of 1908, and thus the Giants lost to the Cubs, had to play a playoff game and the Cubs won and then won the World Series....and THAT was the last time the Cubs won the World Series. Had it not been for Merkle's Boner, the Cubs would not have gone to the Series in 1908. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Merkle

Merkle was playing in 1913. He played quite a few years in the majors. I was just talking about his boner in 1908.

Chief Meyers was a very good catcher, one of the best of his time. He lived a long life, I think he was nearly 90 when he died.

He's got a chapter in maybe the best ever book on sport, The Glory of their Times.

Got it! Your Baseball Hall of Fame 'uniform database' citation makes things very clear. (We'll update the source record and reload the description here shortly.)
