Fort Macquarie was located on Bennelong Point, where the Opera House now is www.lib.mq.edu.au/all/journeys/related/fortmacquarie.html It fascinates me that, although there are defences further up the Harbour, the size of the nascent city was such that defences on Bennelong Point, Dawes Point and Fort Denison existed. The area actuallly covered is so small by modern standards.

1892-93 . Fred Hardie visiting photographer for GWW - acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/item/itemdetailpaged.aspx?itemid=152951 Peculiar clothes for the period - looks like he is wearing sunnies. Or a burglar's mask.

beachcomber australia Ian Sanderson Thanks folks. I hadn't noticed the ship peeping through the archway, a similar scene so beautifully captured in the King photograph.
