On 8 April 1943, B-25C Mitchell #41-12904, "Half Pound Mary" of the 71st Bomb Squadron of the 38th Bomb Group crashed 8 miles north east of Townsville while undergoing an overhaul at the 4th Air Depot. The following crew members were buried at the US Military Cemetery Townsville on 12 April 1943. Carlow, D.T. Atkinson, Courtney B. Neyley, Paul L. Haggerty, John J. Jnr. Peter Murray in Townsville in November 2013 commented that there is some doubt about the accuracy of the caption on the above photograph. After some collaborative research with Peter Murray, it is now confirmed that the above caption under the burial photograph is incorrect in stating that all men were members of the 2nd Service Squadron. Carlow, Atkinson, Neyley, and Haggerty, who were killed in this crash, were buried along with men from two other crashes and two men from the 91st Engineers on 12 April 1943. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Hall where Mitchel's body was to lie in state before his funeral, according to plans in NYT of July 8, 1918 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B03E0DA1E3BE03AB... Although his casket was at City Hall from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday July 11 as planned, the location of the funeral was changed from the Church of St. Francis Xavier to St. Patrick's Cathedral.
