She had been married twice before, to Samuel Steven Sands and Lewis Morris Rutherfurd, Jr.

Mrs. Bacon was chairman of the American Ambulance Committee, which had charge of the Tea Garden at the International Flower Show in New York on April 6, 1916. Mrs. Vanderbilt was a member of the committee. The hallway background is the same as in some other Bain photos from the Flower Show that year.

According to www.royalcollection.org.uk/collection/2509909/king-george... King George and Queen Mary arrive at Calais on 3 July 1917 for a tour of the Western Front in France. The Imperial War Museum has video of the tour. www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1060008209 This photo opp. occurs about 5 minutes into part 3 of the video.
