I've travelled through Washington on many occasions via public transport (Wreckenton to Sunderlaand) and can still vision the scenes you've posted onto these pages. Washington's a fascinating mix of old mining villages with their unique layouts, joined together by newer housing and open green space.

    I agree it is a 'composite'. The 'theatre' could be corner of Beak Street but it doesn't look right. Also it looks like All Souls Church is up on the right whereas it is actually right at the top at Langham Place near the BBC.

    This is a concoction. The theatre is clearly based on the Gaiety at Strand/Aldwych. I took this photo of it in 1955:
