See thats the thing about Munster people, they are so much better behaved than their northern brothers and sisters! Look at the relaxed attitude of the passengers as they allow the ladies to go first (to check that the gangway is safe). As to the debate as to whether SS stood for steam or sail - Wikipedia comes down strongly in favour of Steam as Sailing Vessels had the designation SV (which I never ever saw being used:-0)

Shannon is a very famous name when it comes to ships. The English frigate Shannon was involved in a famous battle against over USS Chesapeake and was one of the very few to come through with a victory over a US ship off Boston. As far as I remember there was a Shannon serving the Shannon estuary right up to the 60's

Note the brass telegraphs port and starboard and the ships bell! Very beautifull

Micheál Cattigan I was admiring the bell but missed the telegraphs until you drew my attention. I also note the trunks for luggage, Michael O'Leary and Ruinair would have a field day with those, they'd never fit into the thingy:-)

But the mural is also a clever code to the colour scheme throughout. The neutral background of light grey (walls and joinery) and mid grey (carpet, windows, bedspreads, playroom wall) is intersected with black lines (wall cabinets, desks, kitchen benches, Hardoy chair frames).
