Even then, the cadets stood during the entire game, which was played on November 29, 1913, at the Polo Grounds, in New York City. Army sank Navy and won the game, 22-9.

Isn't that President Woodrow Wilson (talking to the man in the fur coat)?
  • Wystan said:
Yes, the President did attend the game that day: www.gvsu.edu/hauenstein/index.cfm?id=A34B5ECF-E063-A4F3-B... NYT story on November 14 said that Wilson's family also would be there: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9407E5D7113CE6... The rumpled flag in the photo must indicate the Presidental box. So now we have to figure out who the guy in fur was -- an autograph hound? or a bodyguard in mufti?

This is fascinating: Dwight D. Eisenhower was a linebacker for Army in the 1912 game (which Army lost, 6-0). If only Ike had stayed around for another year, Wilson could have watched a future President playing ball!

Thanks for spotting President Wilson. We'll add the information to the record when we update.
