L-R: Ella (Mrs. Ben) Stahl (1913-2001), Jerry Farnsworth (1895-1982), Ben (Benjamin Albert) Stahl (1910-1987) (seated) and "Henka" Farnsworth (Helen Alton Farnsworth Sawyer) (1900-1999). [1] [2] Ben Stahl and his wife, Ella, first moved to Sarasota, Florida from Connecticut in 1953. They were two of the best-known and most-admired members of Sarasota's lively colony of artists and writers in the 1950's and 60's. Ella Stahl was a model, an actress, a mother and a renowned artist. "For 30 years, Ben Stahl's work and the work of illustrator Norman Rockwell were featured weekly in The Saturday Evening Post and other national magazines. Along with Rockwell's, Stahl's illustrations were among the Post's best known features. "We are but illustrators, but you among the masters, and I am filled with admiration" Rockwell wrote in a letter to Ben Stahl." [3] Jerry Farnsworth developed a world-renowned reputation as a portrait painter. During WWI he studied at the Corcoran School of Art while stationed in Washington, D.C. He then continued his education under Charles Hawthorne (1872-1930) at the Cape Cod School of Art during the nineteen-teens and met fellow student Helen Alton Sawyer, whom he would marry in 1925. His subjects included men of great fame – Presidents Truman, Roosevelt and Harding were among his sitters – yet his depictions of common people remain the most praised. [4]

The engagement of Miss Mildred Hardy (1898-1983), a daughter of Congressman Rufus Hardy (1855-1943), of Texas, to Mr. William (W. L.) Taggart of Washington, D.C. was announced on January 16, 1921.  Mr. W. L. Taggart was a son of Hugh T. Taggart, former assistant Attorney General. They were married on February 21, 1921. — New York Tribune,  [1] Mildred Hardy studied at the Art Students League of New York (with Henri) (1916-1917). She studied at the Corcoran School of Art and the Abbott School of Fine and Commercial Art in Washington, DC. A renowned artist, her paintings were displayed in Washington's National Gallery among others. [2] Mildred Hardy Taggert and her husband lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland. They were divorced in 1950. They had two daughters, Julie Ann Taggart Robinson (1923-2009), and Barbara Jean Taggart (1928-2008). [3] [4] [5] [6]

Epilsk - It's a lap dog. The cameras at the time required long exposures - people needed to sit still while the shot was taken. The dog clearly couldn't :)

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can you imagine what these people would have thought if they had been told that in a hundred years time the whole world would see the picture, thanks to tecnology. At the time they were just inventing the light! In 1877 electric lights were only used by a few people! ... they would have certainly asked: what is technology??

Taught for a time, then entered the lumber business. Served in the military during the Spanish-American War. Lived in Washington, D.C., 1900–41. Was a forestry expert with the Bureau of the Census, 1900–41. Studied with Edmund Clarence Messer, Richard Norris Brooke, and James Henry Moser at the Corcoran School of Art, 1905–15.
