Here's some information I found about her. Margaret Dora Thomson was born in January 1900, presumably in Fresno, California where she was enumerated in the 1900 census with her father Thomas Thomson (b. June 1866 in Scotland) and her mother Janet (Beaton) Thomson (b. June 1868 in Scotland) Her father was a foreman in a vineyard. In the 1910 and 1920 censuses, the family is found in Gilroy, Santa Clara, California, where her father was a farm manager. Looks like a Miss Bertha L. Ferguson was clerk-stenographer in the Smithsonian's Division of HIstory, from c1928-1943: "The division lost, by transfer to another Government Department, the services of Miss Bertha L. Ferguson, clerk-stenographer, who for 15 years faithfully performed not only the routine clerical tasks of the division, but also many duties not usually associated with a purely clerical assignment.
