I feel sorry for them too. Plus they call it the 'OLD men's home'! Some of them may have fought in the wars in Sudan, or the Boer War - both of which took place before and in the early years of federation. Or perhaps they were struggling to pick themselves up after the depression. Might explain how they ended up there!
