I'm almost certain those are camellia flowers, not azaleas. We used to have both camellias and azaleas at our old FL home built in 1885.

The Florida Memory site isn't working right now, but there are other photos of this club. The man standing, btw, is Mack Trip. This photo, btw, is a duplicate of one posted 6 years ago on this flickr site. Too bad Florida Memory didn't respond to you : (
