Wonderful photo of a nations and a family's loss. I had never seen this before and it is very good. Interesting to see how they hall was laid out to cope with those who wished to pay their respects to the fallen leader.

I was reading about Michael Collins and it said the last known photograph of him was in Bandon before the ambush. Is this photograph in your collection?

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/reneemartin] It's not in our online catalogue, Renee, I'll ask about uncatalogued photos and let you know...

oh wow, thanks! I've just been reading coincidentally about Michael Collins recently and it is such an incredible history (incredible in the sense of cultural and historical relevance, not withstanding any political standpoints.) love this flickr, you do such a great job! I always check in every week

Being able to see evocative photographs such as this, taken in emotional times when history really was in the making, makes me appreciate more than ever the immense and irreplaceable value of photography, and of the National Library's archive. This is an outstanding image, not least because it's immediate and unposed... and the subjects, of course, are of profound importance to Ireland's history. Utterly beyond value - and a joy to view, nearly 90 years later.

Wonderful historic vintage photo in B&W!!! Not knowing Irish heroes as well as y'all, can you tag the soldiers so one can know which is Michael Collins and Risteard Mulcahy in this photo. Thank you so very much!!!
