—From the New York Times: Paul Petroff (1908-1981), was a ballet teacher and a leading dancer with the American Ballet Theater. Born in Elsinore, Denmark as Paul Pedersen, Mr. Petroff was a premier danseur with Colonel de Basil's Ballet Russe and the Original Ballet Russe from 1932 to 1943, where he was known for his skill in partnering in the classical repertory. He was a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theater from 1943 to 1945. In 1948 he and his late wife, the ballerina Nana Gollner, formed their own ballet company and toured extensively in South America and the United States. After teaching in Van Nuys, Calif., they founded the Academy for Classical Russian Ballet in Antwerp in 1977.
