Carnival, wrestling bear, all alive... Life's canvas is the richest painting of them all.

This was a "Continuous" show. You paid your nickel and entered; when you'd seen all the acts, you left. The brown pelican has its own perch, so it certainly traveled with the show. I don't see any chain on the leg, so it was probably a pet bird rather than a captured bird.

"See Teddy the wrestling bear": ah, Teddy! le nom de tous les bons vieux nounours de notre enfance. Amusant de voir que ce nom était déjà donné au milileu des années 30. On devrait peut être chercher dans la littérature quelle fable ou quelle légende nomme déjà son ours comme ça. Mais qui était le tout premier Teddy?

The Vermont State Fair has changed. No more wrestling bears. That's a good thing.

Son of Anny Barker, of Castle View, Grosvenor Gardens, Huby, Weeton, Leeds, and the late George Barker. The 1901 census shows the family living at 29 Cardigan Road, Headingley, Leeds. George was the second of eight children and the eldest son. No occupation is shown. Ten years later the family were still living in Cardigan Road where they occupied ten rooms. George Snr was a Commercial Traveller dealing in dried fruits, sugar & rice and his son had followed in his footsteps.
