    The season opened at the Met on 11/16 that year. Maybe this was when tickets went on sale to the general public.

    I hope it is not for today's seats. There are no women in this line/queue! @Mark in NOVA: I remember queuing for standing room and the cheapest seats for the ballet and opera in London a long time after there was TV. But the crowd was more scruffily dressed -- no hats unless it was cold enough to need a woolly hat!
